Analysis of Scalable TCP

چکیده
Scalable TCP [2] is a proposition for a new TCP where both the increase and the decrease rate of the window size are multiplicative. It has been recently proposed in order to improve performance in high speed networks. In this paper, we present a mathematical analysis of such multiplicative increase multiplicative decrease protocols in the presence of random losses. These are typical to wireless networks but can also model losses in wireline networks with very high bandwidth delay product. Our approach is based on showing that the logarithm of the window size evolution has the same behaviour as the workload process in a standard G/G/1 queue. The Laplace-Stieltjes transform of the equivalent queue is shown to provide directly the throughput of Scalable TCP as well as the higher moments of the window size. We validate our findings using ns-2 simulations.

Analysis of Scalable TCP in the presence of Markovian Losses
In high speed networks, the standard TCP’s AIMD algorithm was observed to be inefficient in utilizing the link capacity. As a result of which several proposals such as High-Speed TCP, FAST and Scalable TCP, were put forward. In contrast to the additive increase multiplicative decrease algorithm used in the standard TCP, Scalable TCP uses a multiplicative increase multiplicative decrease (MIMD) ...
متن کاملModeling Scalable TCP friendliness to NewReno TCP
Scalable TCP is a simple change to the traditional TCP congestion control algorithm which dramatically improves TCP performance in high speed wide area networks. The focus of this contribution is to model the performance of Scalable TCP algorithm sharing bottleneck link with a NewReno TCP. The analysis is performed during congestion avoidance phase, for both TCP flows, in steady state and near ...

FAST TCP is Fast Active queue management Scalable Transmission Control Protocol. FAST TCP is an alternative congestion control algorithm in TCP. It is designed for high speed data transfers over large distance. FAST TCP is assumed to be the “successor” of TCP. Lot of people already worked on this subject. Their research work and results yield a new dimension for the entertainment and scientist ...
متن کاملA Simulation Study of Scalable TCP and HighSpeed TCP in Geostationary Satellite Networks
This paper investigates the performance of two TCP enhancements (i.e., Scalable TCP and HighSpeed TCP), recently proposed for high-speed backbone networks with a very large bandwidth-delay product, in a geostationary satellite environment. Both persistent and elastic traffic patterns are considered, performance being evaluated in terms of TCP throughput and mean session delay, respectively. The...
